A month of dance, music and craft from every district of Bali, held each year in Denpasar.
The Bali Arts Festival (Pesta Kesenian Bali) has been held annually since 1979 at the Taman Werdhi Budaya arts centre in Denpasar. Each regency sends its best village troupes to perform.
It usually opens with a street parade and runs for about a month from mid-June. It is one of the best chances to see rarely performed dances alongside the well-known ones.
Why it matters
It is where Bali's villages show their arts to each other, not only to visitors.
What makes it unique
Troupes from all over the island perform in one place within a few weeks.
