A circle of chanting voices retells the Ramayana by firelight.
Kecak is performed by a circle of dozens of men who chant 'cak-cak-cak' in interlocking rhythms, replacing any instrument. In the middle, dancers act scenes from the Ramayana.
It developed in the 1930s from the sanghyang trance ritual. The sunset performance at Uluwatu, on a cliff above the ocean, is the most famous.
