Kemiren, Village of the Osing
Kemiren, Banyuwangi, East JavaJavaCommunity
The cultural village of the Osing, the people of Java's far eastern tip, known for their coffee and their own Barong.
The Osing regard themselves as descendants of the Blambangan kingdom, the last Hindu kingdom in Java, and speak their own language. Kemiren, on the road up to Ijen, is their designated cultural village.
Guests are welcomed with coffee — the village holds a yearly festival where thousands of cups are served along the main street — and with dishes such as pecel pitik. Traditional Osing houses line the lanes.
