Indonesia's second-highest volcano, with the crater lake Segara Anak inside its caldera.
Mount Rinjani rises 3,726 metres above Lombok. Inside its huge caldera lies the crescent-shaped lake Segara Anak and a young cone, Barujari, that is still active.
Reaching the crater rim is a demanding trek of two days or more, usually from Sembalun or Senaru. The foothills, with their waterfalls and villages, can be visited in a day.
