A terraced village on the slopes of Mount Marapi that Minangkabau tradition names as the place its people began.

According to the tambo, the Minangkabau oral histories, Nagari Pariangan was the first settlement of the Minangkabau people. It sits on a hillside above rice terraces, with old rumah gadang houses stepping down the slope.

At its centre is an old mosque with a tiered roof and a hot spring beside it. The village is quiet and best explored on foot.
