A highland village between two volcanoes where Minangkabau songket is woven with gold-coloured thread.

Pandai Sikek lies on the cool slopes between Mount Singgalang and Mount Marapi, a short drive from Bukittinggi. It is the best-known centre of Minangkabau songket, a brocade worn at weddings and ceremonies.

Weavers work at wooden frame looms in their homes, following patterns with names and meanings drawn from Minangkabau proverbs. The village is also known for wood carving.
