A steep green canyon on the edge of Bukittinggi, in the Minangkabau highlands.
Ngarai Sianok is a canyon about 15 km long with near-vertical walls around 100 m high, carved along a geological fault just outside Bukittinggi.
The valley floor is a patchwork of rice fields and river, and the town above it is a good base for exploring Minangkabau villages, markets and rumah gadang houses.
