JCI is the Jakarta Composite Index, known in Indonesian as IHSG (Indeks Harga Saham Gabungan) and officially as the IDX Composite. It follows the shares of the companies listed on the exchange, weighted by their size.
When people say “the Indonesian market rose today”, they usually mean this index went up. Because it is weighted by size, a few very large companies — the big banks in particular — move it more than hundreds of small ones.
An index is a measurement, not something you can hold. Its level tells you how prices moved on average; it says nothing about where they will go next.
