Highland villages of boat-roofed tongkonan houses and cliffside graves.
Tana Toraja lies in the mountains of South Sulawesi. Its villages are lined with tongkonan, ancestral houses whose sweeping roofs curve like the hull of a boat.
The Toraja are known for burial traditions: graves carved into cliffs, balconies of wooden tau-tau effigies, and multi-day funeral ceremonies called Rambu Solo'.
