A high valley of the Dani people, reached only by air.
The Baliem Valley lies about 1,600 m up in the central highlands of Papua. The outside world only became aware of it in 1938.
The Dani, Lani and Yali peoples farm the valley. Each August the Baliem Valley Festival brings communities together with mock battles, music and dance.
